Minor Illness Service

If you are starting to feel unwell, e.g. developing a cough or a cold, you should consider visiting a local pharmacist. They may well be able to give you some basic but important advice regarding your potential illness or advise over-the-counter medicine.

If you feel that the matter is a bit more serious, and is a condition listed below, the surgery offers daily minor illness specialist clinics that will enable you to quickly get some advice and treatment without having to take or wait for a GP’s appointment.

The conditions they can treat include:

  • Coughs.
  • Colds.
  • Chest infections.
  • Sore throats.
  • Earaches.
  • Infected wounds.
  • Eye infections.
  • Rashes, including eczema.
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting (please let the reception team know of this beforehand to triage your call with a clinical for contamination prevention purposes).
  • Skin infections (anywhere on the body except for the genitals).
  • Urinary tract infections (although you can bring a sample to the front desk for dip testing instead).
  • Exacerbation of asthma.
  • Severe hay fever.
  • Worms.

Please note that the minor illness specialist is not suited to seeing patients under 1-year-old, pregnant patients, or people for whom the above conditions are long-term.
